Police in Varkaus in eastern Finland on Monday mounted a large-scale search operation for a three-month baby missing since the morning.

The mother said her child had been snatched from a pram outside her friend's home.

The baby, with golden brown hair, was wearing a jumper, hood, gloves and trainers, all a light shade of blue.

The police urged members of the public to phone 112 with any information about the baby's whereabouts.

The police notified border stations.
