Dangerous products need to be removed from shop shelves significantly more often than in previous years, Finnish regional daily Turun Sanomat reported on Thursday.

According to the Safety Technology Authority (Tukes), the number of withdrawn products has almost doubled this year. Tukes has ordered 36 products to be withdrawn this year, when previously the figure has been around 20.

Tukes added that the increasing figures are in part due to increased surveillance.

Turun Sanomat reported that withdrawn food products have also increased.

The Finnish Food Safety Authority (Evira), has withdrawn 20 food products so far this year, which is a quarter more than during the previous year.

In each case, the withdrawn products have been classified as dangerous.
