LIFE IS characterised by an asymmetrical dualism. Love and hate, joy and pain, life and death – The Finn-Brit Players have been exploring this dualism and have translated their observations into the most beautiful form of the written word: poems.

Songs of Fire & Ice is a selection of over twenty poems written and performed by the FinnBrit Players’ members, directed by Zoë Chandler with John Millar on clarinet. Marietta Chela also performs a selection of poems by the Spanish poet Federico García Lorca.

The original Madame Luminita’s 21st Century Tarot reading transforms the audience from the passive role of spectator into a more interactive one. The audience members are asked to pick a tarot card and are given a humorous reading. The 21st Century deck, designed by Chandler, consists of elements from modern life, such as reality TV.

Questions about Happiness are prompted by Bruce Marsland’s poem Happiness is out of Fashion, a short but powerful poem performed by Fabien Rapien. The title alone launches into a deeper analysis of what constitutes happiness for us in this fast paced world where the songs of love and joy seem to belong to an ethereal realm.
